JUDGMENT DAY - 10/18/98
-Opens with a video montage detailing the last few weeks drama.
-Graphics indicate that Judgment Day is upon us.
-Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler welcome us to The Rosemont Horizon in Chicago
IL. They start things off quickly...
FIRST MATCH: Al Snow Vs Marc Mero
Snow came to the ring shaking his Mannequin Head and looking very
happy. He entered the ring, grabbed the mic, and started to ask what
everybody want, need, etc. As he was talking, Mero's music came on and
stayed on, but Mero and Jacqueline waited for him to finish before coming out. Right after Mero entered the ring, Jeff Jarrett's music came on and Jarrett entered to the ring to try to get Mero to let him wrestle Snow. There was some pushing and shoving, but Mero ended up attacking Snow, Jarrett left, then things got going.
Highlights & Lowlights:
-After a Snow powerslam that rattled him, Mero got up and looked at the
Head, which was placed in the corner, he seemed wary of it. He turned
around and caught a Snow clothesline.
-Snow kept looking and speaking to his Head all throughout the match.
-After stunning Snow, Mero made a big production out of getting ready to
punt the Head into the seats. He wound up to kick, but Snow grabbed him
and rolled him up for a pin attempt.
-Snow faked a clothesline, Mero ducked, Snow caught him into a DDT.
-Snow hit a top rope Moonsault on Mero, which caused Jacqueline to
interfere.
-Jacqueline's interference allowed Mero to hit Snow in the groin..
-Mero hit his own Moonsault on Snow.
-Snow hit a nice Belly to Belly Powerbomb, then went for a long Moonsault. But Jacqueline pulled Mero away in time.
-Mero went for the "Marvelocity", but missed.
The end came when Mero went for the TKO, but Snow shifted his weight
out of it and gave Mero the Snowplow. A three count later and Snow won
the match. Snow grabbed his Head and took off.
-Footage from Heat where McMahon's henchmen escort Austin to his ref's
quarters, which was a small store closet.
SECOND MATCH: The Disciples of Apocalypse with Paul Ellering Vs the
LOD 2000 with Droz
The DOA rode in on their motorcycles. The LOD came in slapping hands with the fans. After soaking up the cheers and limbering up a little,
things got going.
Highlights & Lowlights:
-Animal started first and immediately took some punishment, but he rebounded and clotheslined Skull out of the ring.
-Hawk then came in. Even though he performed decently, there was no escaping the expanding spare tire around his middle.
-Most of the DOA's offense came when Droz was in the ring.
Finally, Hawk and Animal performed the Devastation Device on Skull.
Hawk got up to go for the pin, but Droz slid in and scored the pin for his team. The LOD won but Hawk looked mad that Droz stole his rightful
pinfall.
-Dok Hendrix, Al Snow, and Sable pitched the Hotline. Sable agreed that
even she enjoys a little head once in a while.
THIRD MATCH: Christian Vs Taka Michinoku (WWF Light Heavyweight
Championship Match)
Gangrel led Christian out. They were dressed identically alike.
Michonoku came to the ring with Yamaguchi-San. Things got going quickly.
Highlights & Lowlights:
-Michinoku hit Christian with his Suicide Bomb early into it.
-Michinoku followed that up with a nice Guillotine Kneedrop.
-We see the Edge in the seats and watching the match.
-Christian's first real offense came in the form of a suplex-flip over-second suplex-flip over-face first suplex.
-Christian hit Taka with a springboard body press on the outside.
-Christian went for a top rope diving headbutt, but Taka rolled out of the way.
-Take hit Christian with a MONSTER Moonsault on the outside that was awesome. Michinoku really reached up high on the jump.
-There will several pin attempts during a 60 second period.
-Michinoku hit Christian with a nice Tornado DDT.
The finish came when Michinoku went for the Michinoku Driver, Christian shifted his weight and ended up rolling Taka up in a Victory Roll like pin ands cored the upset victory and the title. Christian is the new
Light Heavyweight champion.
-Shot of the action at WWF.com where Droz was taking all the credit for
the win by the LOD. Hawk looked confused and upset.
-Video montage dealing with Goldust and Val Venis.
FOURTH MATCH: Val Venis Vs Goldust
Terri Runnels came out with Venis as is usual for now. They hit the
ring and Venis had the mic. He managed to say, "Hello La....".
Then Goldust's voice came over the P.A. "Hello Val, it's Showtime!", then Goldust came out to a pretty good pop, a pretty damn good pop really. As Goldust was enjoying his glitterworks exhibition, the camera
makes sure we see that Terri was still wearing her wedding band. Venis stormed the ring and they got going.
Highlights & Lowlights:
-After taking a Venis pounding that went outside, Goldust picked him up in a bodyslam, but dropped him face first against the ring steps.
-Venis hit Goldust with a nice top rope bodyblock on the outside.
-There was really very little "Goldust Antics" in the match. They kept it pretty straightforward.
-In a bit of a throwback to the old days, Venis started to actually work
on Goldust's shoulder.
-Goldust's glove fell off and we see that he is wearing his wedding band
too.
-Goldust hit Venis with a nice Superplex.
-Venis was heard calling spots during a brief lull in the action.
After Goldust hit a Bulldog on Venis, Terri hopped up to the ring apron and asked Goldust what he wanted with her. Goldust started to feel up
his chest and give her a pelvic thrust. Then he turned around to see
Venis coming with a clothesline. Goldust ducked and Venis almost hit Terri, but he stopped short. He turned around and Goldust booted him hard in the groin. Ross called it a "Shattered Dream". Venis went down and Goldust scored the pin. Solid match, probably Dustin's best of the year.
-Michael Kole showed us a clip from Heat when Shamrock re-injured Triple
H's knee.
-X-Pac came out and promised that DX would take care of Shamrock on Monday, but for now it was time to take care of D-Lo.
FIFTH MATCH: X-Pac Vs D-Lo Brown (WWF European Heavyweight
Championship Match)
X-Pac came to the ring with Chyna, and had plenty of Crotch Chops for everyone. D-Lo came to the ring alone as the announcer claimed that he
hailed from Milan, Italy. He told the people at home that we had better
recognize that he was the champ. After some more jiving around from D-Lo, things got going.
Highlights & Lowlights:
-D-Lo was exceptionally pleased with himself after putting X-Pac down with a shoulderblock.
-D-Lo kept in control for the beginning of the match.
-X-Pac followed up a real nice spin kick to D-Lo's face with the Bronco
Buster, D-Lo got his foot up though and X-Pac sailed into his boot.
-D-Lo followed that with his nice Snap Legdrop.
-D-Lo hit his running Powerbomb on X-Pac.
-D-Lo put the Texas Cloverleaf on X-Pac, X-Pac slipped out of it.
-D-Lo went for a Plancha off the top rope, but X-Pac rolled out of the way.
-X-Pac went for the Bronco Buster again, and scored.
-The Ref went down and Mark Henry came out to distract Chyna, D-Lo hit X-Pac with the Euro belt and went for the pin. The ref was still dazed so when he finally made the count, X-Pac was able to kick out.
The end came when D-Lo mounted the top ropes and went for a diving
headbutt. Unfortunately for him, X-Pac was already up and gave him his
Face Buster (X-Pac was up too early, so the finishing sequence looked
too choreographed.). X-Pac won the match and the European title.
-spot for Austin's baseball jersey
-Michael Kole announced that Paul Bearer was seen going into the
Undertaker's dressing room, he made a point to say it was a rumor. Then
he talked to the Headbangers, who called Billy Gunn a "Country Bumpkin",
and reminded us that he was once "Rock-a-Billy". They also hinted that
the tag champs may be lovers too.
SIXTH MATCH: The Headbangers Vs the New Age Outlaws (WWF Tag Team
Title Match)
The NAO came out first and well into the routine when the Headbangers attacked from behind and things got going.
Highlights & Lowlights:
-Crisp tag work gave the Outlaws the advantage.
-Ross made a big deal out of Billy Gunn's athletic prowess.
-Road Dog took a bit of a beating, then tagged out.
-Bad Ass was taking care of both of them, until a pulled top rope dumped
him out of the ring. Bad Ass took a beating for the rest of the match.
-The rest of the match held a LOT of rest holds.
The ending came when Road Dog nailed Mosh with another boom box and
caused the Disqualification. There was nothing much to this match. Ross made sure we knew that the broken boom box wasn't a JVC product. Then Howard Finkle made sure we knew that the NAO were still Tag champs. The music played and Billy Gunn got the crowd to scream, "SUCK IT".
-Michael Kole had concrete proof that Paul Bearer just walked into Kane's dressing room. Then Mankind came out with Mr. Socko When Mankind told Mr. Socko that he didn't know what brutal meant, Mr. Socko said that he listened to Shamrock's interviews, so he knew full well what "brutal" was all about. Then he pulled off Mr. Socko to show that he was wearing black underwear in the form of black tape around his fingers.
SEVENTH MATCH: Mankind Vs Ken Shamrock (WWF Inter-Continental
Heavyweight Championship)
Shamrock came to the ring first and was looking mean. As Mankind made his way to the ring, this AWESOME EXCHANGE between Lawler and Ross took
place..
Ross (Discussing Pat Patterson's IC title victory in the 70's), "Didn't he say, in Rio De Janeiro, he went through....15 men or...?"
Lawler, "15 wrestlers in one night. They all got behind him but, Pat came out on top."
Ross, "I find that a little hard to swallow."
-Read whatever you want into it, a damn near choked when I heard it.
Highlights & Lowlights:
-Shamrock went right for the arm early in.
-Mankind stuck with punches and kicks.
-Mankind went for the Mandible Claw, but Shamrock slipped out of the ring.
-Mankind tried for the Mandible again, but Shamrock fought to keep it out of his mouth.
-On the outside, Mankind tried to use a chair, but the ref fought him for it. Shamrock kicked him in the face.
-Shamrock followed that with a chair to the head.
-Shamrock started to bleed slightly from his nose.
-Mankind brought back and old favorite by dropping and Elbow on Shamrock
from the apron to the outside.
-Shamrock powerbombed Mankind onto the ring steps.
-Shamrock put him in the Ankle Lock, Mankind grabbed the ropes.
Then Shamrock pulled him back to the middle and put the Ankle Lock on him again. After straining to fight the pain, Mankind finally put the
Mandible Claw on himself to knock himself out. The ref called for the bell and announced that Shamrock won with the Mandible Claw. Shamrock "snapped" and started to kick at Foley some more. Mankind then put Mr. Socko on and dropped Shamrock with the Mandible Claw. Stupid ending to a pretty interesting match.
-Michael Kole tried to get to Vince McMahon, but the Big Bossman showed
up and said that nobody gets to Vince now that he's the law and order of
the WWF.
EIGHTH MATCH: Mark Henry Vs the Rock.
Mark Henry came to the ring and recited a poem for Chyna. When he was finished, the Rock came out to a massive pop. He hit the ring and had
plenty of "People's Eyebrows" to give out. They got it on quickly.
Highlights & Lowlights:
-The Rock dropped Henry with a hard clothesline.
-Henry powered Maivia around a little.
-The crowd went nuts when the Rock dropped the People's Elbow
The end came when D-Lo came out and held Maivia's legs down as Henry
pinned him (it was after a Big Splash). The ref made the three count and the Rock did a surprise job to Mark Henry. After the match, the Rock just stood there with his eyebrow raised. It was a nothing match.
-spot for the next PPV, The Survivor Series: Deadly Games
-Ross and Lawler talk up the main event.
-video spot telling the story again.
NINTH MATCH: The Undertaker Vs Kane (WWF World Heavyweight
Championship Match. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin is the Guest Referee)
Kane came out first, and made the ring posts explode. The Undertaker came out to a great pop. They stared at each other a bit, then the Undertaker stuck his hand out and his Brother shook it. Then Austin
came out to a fan explosion. He hit the ring and said hello to the crowd. After giving both Kane and the UT the Double Birdie, things got going.
Highlights & Lowlights:
-Both big guys took turns punching each other early in.
-UT went for the early pin. Austin hit the mat, then held his hand up and left it hanging there. UT wasn't happy as Kane kicked out.
-Kane went a pin very quickly after that, and Austin made a fast count. UT still kicked out.
-UT beat Kane around the outside. Austin suggested that he choke him with a cable.
-UT didn't do that, but he did use a chair. Austin allowed it.
-UT started to work on Kane's leg.
-A respectable chant of "BORING" could be heard.
-UT pretty much dominated this match.
-The beginning of the end started when Kane sent UT into Austin. Austin
stumbled around dazed and walked right into a Kane chokeslam. Then Kane
and the UT double teamed Austin some.
-That stopped when UT attacked Kane again.
-Then Paul Bearer came out with a chair. He entered the ring and encouraged Kane to allow him to hit the UT with the chair. Kane turned his back on him and Bearer hit him with the chair. It was a doublecross.
-Kane no sold the chair shot, and cornered Bearer. The UT picked up the
chair and knocked Kane down with it. Bearer was all smiles as the UT went for the pin.
-Austin was up by then, but refused to make the pin. UT went after him,
Austin kicked him, then dropped him with the Stunner. Austin followed that with a huge chair shot and counted both men's shoulder's down.
-Austin grabbed the mic and announced that he was the winner of the match. He called Vince out, then went looking for him in the back.
-He stormed into the Hotline room, but no Vince.
-He walked into another room. Owen Hart was there. This exchange took
place:
Austin: "Where's Vince at?"
Owen, "I don't know."
Austin, "You better not be hiding him, you're supposed to be such good friends with him!"
Owen, "I'm retired."
Austin, "You're sickening!"
-Austin made his way back to the ring and said that Vince must have left. Then Vince's voice was heard demanding that they raise up the Titan screen.
-The screen lifted and Vince was seated in a box with the Big Bossman and his cronies. Vince began his speech, but was interrupted when a filthy piece of white cloth landed on his head and covered his face for a second. The crowd cracked up. After reacting accordingly to a chant of "ASSHOLE", Vince officially fired Steve Austin from the WWF.
-Vince screamed "SCREW YOU, YOU'RE FIRED!!!"
-Vince was wheeled away, Austin was left in the ring and promised that he hasn't seen the last of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.
Austin asked the sound guy to play his music one last time. The sound guy obliged. Austin grabbed three beers he had under the ring and
guzzled them in the ring as Ross eulogized his WWF career. The show ended with Austin walking away and Ross selling the dickens out of this new angle development.
This was probably the worst WWF PPV of the year so far. It doesn't
rank up there with some of WCW's worst shows, but it definitely isn't worth the money. You didn't miss much. In fact, I want my money back.
This is Hyatte.
